In a time when the coaching industry is expanding rapidly, standing out with integrity has never felt more important. I recently completed the accreditation process with the IAPC&M and am writing this post to share with other coaches how this experience not only deepened my practice but also reshaped my identity as a professional coach.
For those of us committed to real transformation – in our clients and ourselves – accreditation can be more than another certificate. It can be a catalyst.
Why Accreditation Mattered to Me
When I first considered accreditation, I wasn’t doing it for another certificate. I was searching for something more meaningful:
- A framework that would stretch and support me
- A standard that aligned with my own values
- A clear distinction between my work and the ever-growing sea of unregulated “coaches”
The IAPC&M capability accreditation process gave me a powerful opportunity to examine my own approach, reflect on my ethics, and sharpen my professional edge.
Why I Chose the IAPC&M
After exploring several accreditation routes because doing our due diligence is important, I chose the IAPC&M because their values resonated deeply. They are currently the only coaching and mentoring accreditation body approved by the British Industry Ombudsman, which speaks volumes about the standards they uphold.
But what truly stood out was their humanistic approach. The IAPC&M uses a capabilities-based accreditation model, which is a more inclusive approach and provides mewith scope to embrace my unique coaching approach.
I was also delighted to discover I had access to a wide range of continuous development opportunities, including:
- Live masterclasses and ongoing
- Business-building resources
- Supervision and mentoring support
- PR and marketing tools to help build visibility
This level of care and professional scaffolding made me feel part of something bigger – an international community striving for excellence in an industry that still needs clearer guardrails.
How the Accreditation Journey Felt
The process was structured, rigorous, and deeply reflective. It tested me – not just in my knowledge and skills, but in my inner readiness to fully own my place as a coach.
There were moments of doubt and vulnerability. But there was also encouragement, practical feedback, and a genuine sense of partnership from the assessors and wider community.
For me, it was transformational. I didn’t come out the same way I went in. I came out more grounded, more confident, and more aligned with my purpose.
What’s Changed Since Accreditation?
Becoming an accredited coach has brought several unexpected shifts:
- A stronger sense of professional identity
- Greater confidence in my offers and pricing
- Increased clarity in how I talk about what I do
- A deeper connection with other committed professionals
There’s something powerful about being part of a global network that champions high standards, ethics, and lifelong learning.
Final Thoughts – And an Invitation
If you’re a coach contemplating accreditation, here’s what I’d say: don’t do it just to add letters after your name. Do it because you want to grow. Do it because you’re ready to raise your standards. And do it because your clients deserve nothing less.
I’m always happy to share more about my journey, especially if you’re unsure where to begin or what the process involves.
Let’s keep raising the bar – together.
