Mentor Accreditation
Welcome and Thank You for Considering the IAPC&M as Your Mentor Accreditation Body
Mentoring Definition:
Mentoring capitalises on a mentor’s experience, and the knowledge and insights derived from it, to guide and support a mentee on their journey. The learning alliance that mentoring encourages increases awareness of self and the environment in which both mentor and mentee operate in, taking into consideration all options and factors at play. At times the role of coach and mentor may be entwined, and mentors are encouraged to embrace core coaching skills that encourage longer term results. Advice is often a natural outcome of mentoring; however, the responsibility of any decision-making always rests with the mentee.
Approach to Mentor Accreditation:
The IAPC&M has a holistic and capabilities approach to accreditation. Our capability approach allows and encourages you to show your ability to mentor. It enables you to demonstrate your relevant behaviours, skills, methods, and knowledge that affects the outcome of a mentoring session.
One of the most important considerations is the anticipated experience criteria. The level of accreditation you can apply for will be largely based on the Accreditation Levels & Requirements (see below).
The IAPC&M offer you four status levels to choose from:
- Practitioner – The starting point for new and aspiring mentors who will demonstrate up to three years purposeful practice.
- Senior – For experienced mentors with a proven track record of between three and five-years purposeful practice.
- Master – For highly experienced mentors with a proven track record and between five and seven-years purposeful practice.
- Fellow – For exceptionally experienced mentors with a proven track record and a genuine desire to want to share their experience and more than seven years purposeful practice.
The level you can apply for will depend upon several factors. These are shown in the criteria below.
Within the assessment process, there is an emphasis of theory in action. Namely that you can demonstrate your capability as a mentor. This includes the use of case studies related to testimonials.
Routes to achieve your professional accreditation status:
1. Accredited Training Provider Course Route (ATPCR)
This route is open to coaches who have attended, and successfully completed an IAPC&M accredited course with one of our accredited training providers, so they benefit from a faster track, reduced fee option to their personal accreditation status. A directory of our accredited training providers can be found here.
2. Portfolio Route
This route is all-inclusive for coaches who have gained their coaching experience by any other route.
3. Combination Mentor & Coach Accreditation
If you offer both mentoring and coaching support and wish to apply for a combination accreditation, which will be discounted, please contact the IAPC&M.
