Coach Accreditation
You are on this page because you want to know how to get accredited as a coach. The IAPC&M has a holistic and capabilities approach to accreditation.
Therefore, you benefit from a choice of two routes to achieve your IAPC&M accreditation:
1. Accredited Training Provider Course Route (ATPCR)
This route is open to coaches who have attended and successfully completed an IAPC&M accredited course with one of our accredited training providers. A directory of our accredited training providers can be found here.
2. Portfolio Route
This route is all-inclusive for coaches who have gained their coaching experience by any other route.

Very Important Pensioners (VIP)
In recognition of the great service provided by those who have aged in years as well as wisdom, pensioners are invited to contact us for a 50% reduced invoice. If you are a VIP or are unsure which route is for you please contact the IAPC&M.
Combination Coach & Mentor Accreditation
If you offer both coaching and mentoring support and wish to apply for a combination accreditation, which will be discounted, please contact the IAPC&M.

The IAPC&M recognises you are unique
Our accreditation model enables you to comprehensively demonstrate your ability through a tried and tested model (adapted from the ‘Oxford Brookes model for assessment of coaching capabilities’ and used with their permission and guidance). This model accurately assesses your coaching skills in a way that recognises that you are unique.
“How do I get accredited as a coach”?
By focusing on the following criteria, we are able to provide you with a carefully thought out assessment process, which enables you to demonstrate your coaching capability.
1. Qualifying criteria – what you need to have to apply for accreditation
2. Evidence collection – what you need to provide to show underlying capability
3. Assessment – demonstrate your capability.

“What do I need to demonstrate to get accredited as a coach”?
This is what we are looking for:
1. Underpinning Knowledge & Understanding
i. Models, methodologies, and theories which underpin your practice
ii. Alignment of models and theories to practice
2. Skills & Behaviours
i. Effective use of skills in an ethical and professional manner
ii. Responsiveness to the client
3. Reflective Practice
i. Critical self-reflection
ii. Awareness of issues and dilemmas within relationships
4. Developing Capability
i. Ongoing professional learning and development
ii. Effective use of supervision, coaching and/or mentoring.
- Your capability-based interview, personal reflections and validation of evidence addresses criteria 1, 3 and 4.
- Your capability skills assessment is a live session (not role-play) adresseses criteria 2, skills & behaviours.

Capability Assessment Areas
Being assessed for anything can be nerve wracking. Therefore, we have recorded, for your reassurance and benefit, a series of 11 masterclasses. These recordings detail exactly what we are looking for so you can prepare for your live assessment call with confidence.

1. Establish The Agreement:
Clearly established the parameters for the session and reaches an agreement on the scope with the client.
2. Establishing Trust And Relationship With The Client
The ability to create a safe and supportive relationship based on mutual respect.
3. Use of Self
The ability to be present at the moment and engaged with the client.
4. Active Listening
The ability to focus on the client with complete attention and to notice and respond to the nuances of coaching themes.
5. Powerful Questioning
The ability to ask questions that reveal the information needed for maximum benefit to the coaching relationship and the client.
6. Direct Communication
The ability to communicate effectively by using appropriate and clear language that the client can understand, making use of the information and feedback provided.
7. Create Awareness Through Feedback and Challenge
The ability to reflect a perspective beyond the words expressed by the client that enables the client to become aware of a wider perspective.
8. Considering Options:
The ability to support the client in exploring options that will maximise opportunities for on- going learning and progress on the desired outcome.
9. Action Planning
The ability to create an effective coaching plan with the client
10. Managing Progress and Accountability
The ability to hold attention to what is important for the client, and to leave responsibility with the client to act.

It is this effective approach at determining your level of professional capability that makes this process such a meaningful industry benchmark. It is also much more important to the clients that you work with because it gives them confidence that they are in safe and capable hands.
