Free Coaching Tools

I am a maximiser. I am a cheapskate. I love getting what I can, and using what I can, for the betterment of myself and others, and I like nothing more than finding coaching tools that are free!

That is why I love the podcast “Both Sides of the Coin“. It has over 50 episodes that share tools, tips and techniques for coaches and mentors, which they can download and listen to – for free!

If you love free coaching tools too, then this article is for you. ?

I am an Accredited Master Coach and have been coaching for 13 years, mainly in the areas of career, redundancy, international transition, and life coaching. In essence, I work as a career coach with people across the globe, to help them land new roles, that are right for them, so they are happy at work and at home.

I have had several career changes, the last one being into coaching! So, from personal experience, I know how hard it can be as both a new and aspiring coach, as well as someone who is more experienced, to constantly deliver coaching excellence.

How Do We Offer Our Clients Value for Money?

As coaches, it is important we continuously demonstrate to our clients that the money they invest in themselves, through booking a set of coaching sessions, will enable them to achieve their goals. Coaching is results-oriented!

However, I also believe, our interaction must go beyond just delivering this. I strive to leave my clients with a long-lasting impression of the benefits and effectiveness of coaching and of the coaching industry.

How we coach is key. Listen, ask astute open questions, provide a safe space, and keep our clients moving towards their goals. We also need to be confident and calm, no matter what issue or topic is brought up by a client. We also need to be clear about boundaries; hence, contracting is key to any successful coach/coachee relationship.

Even now, after 13 years of coaching experience, I still prioritise CPD (Continuous Professional Development). I am constantly sourcing topics I need to refresh and learn more about, and I look for tools and techniques I can adapt to suit certain clients’ styles and preferences. Keeping up to date with new trends such as AI in coaching is important. We all need to stay on our toes and be constantly learning to better serve our clients.

This IAPC&M blog on CPD explores the importance of ongoing learning for coaches  and you can find out more as well as download your CPD log here

However, I admit that I am someone who struggles to stay engaged through long webinars or e-learning courses. As Winston Churchill said, “I am always ready to learn although I do not always like being taught.”

I need quick, actionable ideas and tips that I can dip in and out of and implement straight away. That is where the idea of developing short, best-practice coaching podcasts came about, and the feedback has been terrific!

My Volunteer Role at the IAPC&M

My first career was in radio. As a former BBC radio producer and reporter, I still love to interview people and find out their stories, asking questions that elicit answers that others can take away and remember, after listening.

Hence, on behalf of the International Authority for Professional Coaching & Mentoring, I produce and host a podcast aimed at coaches and mentors.

The podcast I host is aptly named ‘Both Sides of the Coin’ because I talk to both a coach or mentor and one of their clients to explore both sides of the coaching/mentoring intervention –  what works and what doesn’t.

As the proverb says, “Iron sharpens iron”.

From day one, I have been insistent clients have to be interviewed, alongside coaches, after all, that is who we serve.  When asked about this, I frequently reply, “How can we improve our practices as coaching professionals, unless we hear from the clients themselves and change or improve the way we work, based on their coaching experience”?
